I unfortunately won't be able to play until the 28th...so hopefully it doesn't fill up yet. |

Ok everyone. Didn't get much feedback so we're gonna go with Jade Quarry. Milkwagon and I have had several discussions and done some reading. Some thoughts on the decision:
1. The big WvW alliances aren't declaring early. They are keeping things a secret for now, so we can't follow them.
2. Jade Quarry has won almost all WvW matches in beta. They have a group of ex DAoCers that are familiar with WvW and seem to be organized.
3. It is expected to be high pop, which should mean good economy, but may also mean queue times for WvW.
4. Free server transfers are open for at least the first couple weeks it looks like, so if we don't like it, we can all move for free.
I recommend you guys get on Jade Quarry as soon as you can. Don't wanna see most of the guild make it on there and a few get left off cause it fills up.
Get on vent friday night! |

Agreed, Oedi. Will post the official server of THP by Wednesday. Several people I know are doing some research, so feel free to post any and all thoughts here. |

News about the server "guesting" system:
Quote: | At launch, players will be able to transfer between worlds freely. However, once server populations have largely settled and stabilized, world transfers will be restricted to once a week and cost a variable amount of gems based on the population of the world being transferred to.
In time, we’ll also introduce free “guesting,” which will allow players to visit other worlds as guests as long as they have friends on those worlds. This feature will be free, but guest players will not be able to enter World vs. World, and the Power of the Mists bonuses from their home world will continue to apply to their characters. |
So this means that they will NOT have server guesting at launch. So let's make sure we are all on the same server initially.

Some more thoughts on a home server. There are a few large WvW alliances out there. One called "Titan Alliance" sounds like they are good at what they do and have a good attitude.
You can read their charter here:

I don't think they've declared a server yet, but following these guys might be a good idea. They work with PUGs or other small guilds and seem to have their shit together.
IF/when we ever decide to WvW, it would be cool to be part of an organized team. |

Hi guys and gals, some of you may remember me from WoW some time ago. Oedipial got me to preorder GW2, so I'll be there with them, wherever they wind up. I was Kilaen with some of you ages ago. Hope to see you in game! |

The couple friends of mine are probably rolling on Ehmry Bay btw. Theres nothing special about that server other than they are trying to avoid the Warhammer crowd and Reddit/4Chan Servers.
I personally don't care much about WvWvW so I'll go to whatever server, the little bit I did was pretty cluster fuck if you stayed with the objectives, but who knows maybe I just didnt do enough. |

Oh lawdy, I wonder if the banner at the bottom of their website is any indication as to what MMOs they have played together as a guild. |

Aye, I've been watching both. Most seem to have switched over to using the website, so some of the older entries on the forum thread haven't been modified to reflect changes. And with the website being updated to allow guilds to list their focus, casual/hardcore preference, etc, I suspect that trend will continue.
As far as tracking ex-DAoC/WAR players, this site seems to have a fair amount of representation, although obviously not anything that could be called official. The poll concluded with Jade Quarry as the top choice:

Admittedly, my hunch to follow these guys is not without a few potential pitfalls. It may end up being a bunch of fruity RPers, or worse, sticks in the mud that are entirely too serious. But I know they were very well represented in WvW in BWE2 and BWE3, which indicates to me they will at least offer a fighting chance for the server. And even then, it may all mean nothing once the server matching kicks in and for whatever reason our eventual home server ends up getting it's ass beaten regularly by whoever...
One other thought is to look at the spread of guilds that have signed up on the website. It seems a safe bet to pick a server where a healthy variety of guilds live. JQ seems to have a nice mix of both casual and semi/hardcore, with focus on PVE, WvW, or both.

edit: also check out http://www.jadequarry.com/main . i'm sure JQ is not the only server with a community website started, but this seems like a very good step in the right direction.
Only other thought to share is that there are a handful of servers to avoid:
Anvil Rock (rumored to be the 4chan server)
Crystal Desert (looks like it'll be very crowded for a long time)
Darkhaven (Reddit server. by some estimates, will become 4chan-lite) |
